TL;DR: We’ve got a new name. Everything else stays the same.
We recently heard from not one, but two companies about our name — Simplehuman (the folks who make those sleek trash cans) and Superhuman (the email app we are the best alternative to). Being in the “human” family wasn’t just going to work out.
They’ve had the name a lot longer than we have, so we decided the right thing to do was to rebrand.
We’re now called CMDK.
The name comes from Cmd+K — the keyboard shortcut that opens our command bar.
This name called out to me the most from the options we considered – Supercharged, Zapify, Ampere, and a host of others. But the fact that cmdk.email was available, and Cmd+K is how you invoke most of our existing features meant this was the winner.
Shoutout to Sidin (sidin.co) for the name — an incredibly talented writer, a brand consultant, and a customer. And thank you to everyone who helped brainstorm the name and helped narrow it down.
What’s changing?
Just the name.
- Same features
- Same keyboard shortcuts
- Same team
- Same everything
Your account, settings, and data are all exactly where you left them. No action needed on your end.
You might notice the new name in the extension, on our website, or in your emails from us. We didn’t want you to be confused or think something shady was going on.
Thank you
To everyone who uses Simplehuman/CMDK — thank you for your support. We’re grateful you’ve made this extension part of your workflow, and we’re not going anywhere.
